NEXT GENERATION NETWORKS AND COMMUNICATION:

- IoT. Technologies for the interconnection of things/machines (M2M technologies) or to build robust, reliable and smart sensor networks. This also includes ubiquitous computing.
- 5G. This includes advanced baseband processing, circuits and 5G technology implementation.
- Connectivity safety & security enablers. Technologies or devices that ensure safe communication is established between devices.
Systems that hybridize the physical world (devices, materials, products, machinery and facilities) with the digital world, allowing for devices and digital systems to interact with each other. Cyber-physical systems integrate computing, storage and communication abilities along with object monitoring and/or control abilities in the physical world. To do so, these systems combine technologies based on cybernetics, mechatronics and process control. This group includes embedded process control systems, real-time systems and safety-critical systems.
OUTDOOR & INDOOR POSITIONING TECHNOLOGIES
Technologies designed to allow for the precise identification and positioning of objects in both closed and open spaces, thus allowing their position to be digitized. This group includes positioning technologies based on different types of signals: optical, sound, radio frequency and other passive methods.
ADVANCED HUMAN-MACHINE INTERFACES
Next-generation technologies for human-machine interaction or the interaction of agents in the physical world with the digital world.
- Input technologies. This encompasses gesture recognition, eye tracking, voice recognition and voice control as well as multimodal pattern recognition key enabling technologies.
- Haptic technologies. This encompasses the technologies that allow interaction through touch, ranging from electrotactile to vibrotactile stimulation and ultrasound.
- Virtual/augmented reality. Virtual and augmented reality solutions such as VR/AR headsets and derived devices.
- Wearable. Electronic devices and sensors incorporated in clothing or commonly used objects.
Systems primarily designed for robot interaction, guaranteeing reliability, safety and robustness when interacting with human beings, the natural environment or other devices.
- Human perception and modelling. Technologies to recognize the robot’s surroundings, status and the presence of individuals. Algorithms to interpret the desires or gestures of the individuals that interact with the robot.
- Motion planning. Technologies to ideally generate robot trajectories in environments that are dynamic, open or which include obstacles.
- Human coordination and collaboration. Algorithms/components to carry out coordinated or collaborative work between individuals and robots.
- Collaborative robots. Robots specially designed to interact with human beings and, specifically, to assist in complex tasks.
